Elon Musk has reignited his long-running rivalry with Jeff Bezos after publicly mocking the Amazon founder’s latest move into artificial intelligence. The Tesla and SpaceX chief — now the world’s first reported trillionaire — took aim at Bezos on Monday, calling him a “copycat” as news broke that the billionaire is helping launch a massive new AI venture, Project Prometheus.

Musk reacted to an article announcing the startup by reposting it on X and writing, “Haha no way 😂,” followed by “Copy🐱.”
The jab immediately stirred chatter online, with users framing the moment as yet another battle in tech’s most famous feud.

When one follower suggested the two moguls should form an alliance, Musk shot back: “How?” Another commenter claimed Bezos was “jealous” and “felt left out of the club,” while one user joked, “He should just change his name to Jeff Musk.”

Project Prometheus arrives with $6.2 billion in funding, making it one of the most heavily financed early-stage AI companies in the world, according to The New York Times. Bezos is partially backing the venture and will serve as its co-CEO — his first formal operating role since leaving Amazon in 2021.

The startup is reportedly focused on building AI technology aimed at engineering and manufacturing across aerospace, computers, automobiles, and other physical-world sectors.
Its cofounder and co-CEO, physicist Vik Bajaj — formerly a director at Google X — has already updated his LinkedIn profile, though the company’s own page remains mostly blank, aside from the line: “AI for the physical economy.”

Bezos has not yet commented publicly on the project. His recent social posts have centered on Blue Origin’s space launches, continuing his rivalry with Musk’s SpaceX both on Earth and beyond it.

The debut of Project Prometheus comes as the AI landscape grows increasingly crowded, with startups scrambling to carve out space against giants like OpenAI, Google, Meta, Microsoft, and Anthropic. Bezos’ entry into the sector positions him directly against Musk’s expanding AI empire — and Musk is clearly not letting the moment pass quietly.
